Re: K5881 Stereo Power Amp

The 5881PSE came with specific instruction how to wire it as a monoblock, something involving the 15ohm lead from the output transformers (for 8ohm speaker). Would have to dig it out and think if...

Re: Pseudo Shunt wiring

I could be wrong here, but I think the nearest context for use of the pseudo word is in to "pseudo-logarithmic". Here, a linear potentiometer is used in conjuction with a pattern of fixed resistors...

Re: Child forum

I think smithblue3 must be right.
If, for example, you search the Heading "World Designs" for the word "Amplifier" you get 107 results if child forums are searched, but no matches at all if child...

Re: Breakthrough with WDPre3

Just thinking along different lines. When you say "In the background", is it a very very quiet high thin tinny whisper?
Which could suggest capacitative coupling between wires somewhere, regardless...

Re: Diode's on pre III relay board

At risk of being shot down:
I always understood the point of the diodes (if fitted correctly!) was to be momentarily forward biased into conduction in order to dissipate the energy from the coil. ...

Re: Remember Motorbikes?

I had a whole spanner buried almost invisibly in a back tyre of my c*r. (Yes, I apologise! "Two wheels Good, Four wheels Bad," to misquote George Orwell).
It was explained that this was routine. ...

Re: what are you listening to now

The Webb Sisters "Savages" LP.
Just bought it at their concert in Oxford last night, and had it signed, "Charlie & Hattie" with an "X" from each of them, no less ;)!
First encountered them as...

Re: DC voltage when switching to phono

That makes sense.
Pardon me if I you have already excluded this explanation.
I understand you are metering the Phono2 output relative to signal earth.
When it is switched off (and has been for a...

Re: Balance pot for WAD CF Pre

They do exist!
I should have looked up the word "concentric" potentiometer.
Apologies, I stand corrected on the Cyrus I just assumed that was how they worked from the pictures.

Re: Balance pot for WAD CF Pre

Does no-one make coaxial-shafted separate potentiometers any more?
I mean, as found on old radios where you might have on the left volume on one control ring and tone on the other ring; and...

Re: Matching the KLPP1 pre amp to K5881 MK2

I run my KLPP1 with output of the volume control going straight to one pair of the two sets of output sockets.
The main reason for this is so as not need to switch on the valves unless lisening to...

Re: Feedback fun with K5881 - Re-visited!

With a long-tailed pair the first side gets the input signal to its grid, say 1V positive, and it conducts, say, 1mA more (yes I can see both halves really draw only 0.75mA or thereabouts in total -...

Re: Vanilla K5881 upgrades

Re: Vanilla K5881 upgrades

5881PSE was rated at 17W per channel. I was never aware of that being increased.
The outer position small signal valves were 7025, the two nearer the midline 6922

And the original...
