Re: WAD 300B PP Problem - help please (high volume rustling sound)

Thanks Richard,

Currently reading 7mV on the left channel (high from my reading) and 4mV on the right channel (probably about right, but could be reduced further).

1. Signal grounds (and...

Re: WAD 300B PP Problem - help please (high volume rustling sound)

Dear John,

Yes the batteries are the tagged types and directly soldered, so there have been no problems there (and two spares in case the NiCads become unavailable in future, but the current ones...

Re: WAD 300B PP Problem - help please (high volume rustling sound)

I should just add that the Audionote Kit would probably account for the next 10 birthdays and Christmases combined, given the price.

Cheers

Re: WAD 300B PP Problem - help please (high volume rustling sound)

Dear John (and David),

Thank-you for the sage advice.

The problem (after the rebuild) was a poorly soldered connection between R4 and the battery mod (visibly looked fine of course). This...

Re: KEL84 & WD25T Potentially for Sale

I would certainly be interested in the WD25T's; there were two versions - did these have the expensive tweeters?

Post your prices and some pictures and I will consider. I live in London

Cheers...

WAD 300B PP Problem - help please (high volume rustling sound)

Dear all,

I built a PP clone 3 years ago which has given sterling service, but has now developed problems.

The initial problem was a popping, quickly followed by a burst capacitor (either C6...

Re: World designs closes

Best of luck Dave (and thanks to WD team who were always helpful and polite).

I would be in for a WD25T/A if there are any kits with cabs left? Please send me a pm (if time allows).

Future...

Re: Pre3 - developments?

I think the trophy items are more likely to be 80 inch plasma screens these days, rather than anything Hi-Fi. I admit that my Gyro brings envious looks from anyone that sees/hears it (all of whom...

Re: The Old Which Speaker? Chestnut

Don't forget that one of the advantages of the new WD25s (A or T) is that the cabs have the ARCENA material which is designed to get rid of cabinet resonance and colouration of the sound; this is...

Re: WD25/ATC scm 40 or Harbeth slh5

Dear Cobblers,

IF I had the space and perfect children who did not fight (I think the last pillow fight came within a centimetre of removing the stylus from my moving coil over the weekend) , and...

Re: WD25/ATC scm 40 or Harbeth slh5

Oh and if looking for comparable speaker designs to the WD25T, start your comparsions to speakers of around the £5k mark - this gives equivalent component price, but even then commercial speakers...

Re: WD25/ATC scm 40 or Harbeth slh5

Hi Jair,

I have not got Cobbler's experience with other speakers, but:

WD25A (Ex's) are fine close to the wall (on bookshelf) - fabulous imaging, excellent with rock, jazz, classical, vocal...

Re: EX Treble unit run-in ?

I wonder how much "running in" is psychological. After all, if you go to a Cafe or Bar and the music (usually the speakers) are apalling, you tend to tune them out after a while (brain adaptation),...

Re: EX Treble unit run-in ?

Mine sound great with the blue Soniqs cable (same as used inside the speaker I think). I think about a week was needed before the speakers settled (but they were a vast improvement from the start!)....

Re: What chance Mission Aperiodics?

Thanks Peter for that info. Good luck with the brand rebuilding at Mission.

I suppose the other question is who spends this sort of money on speakers (i.e. above 5k)? I live in a fairly middle...

Re: What chance Mission Aperiodics?

I also presume that commercial designs use components and build of around 10% of the finishing price (so that's 5% on drivers and crossover, 5% on cabs).

I would guess that components of the...

Re: Whats posible for a beginner?

Dear Neil,

During the build of the WD25's, you will need to solder the crossovers - this will give you an idea of the skills required to do the bigger projects. The main issue here is the...

Re: Active/Passive bi-amping WD speakers!

According to the last Hi-Fi World articles from Peter (designer of the WD 25T's) a long time user of the Dynaco A25's brought them to him, he developed the new improved WD25 Milleniums, and the user...
