Re: Mullard Tropical Fish

Bob, give Nigel (vinylspinner) a shout. He has a collection of these and I know heíll help if he can.

Re: KEL84 from the recycling centre

The WAD confusion comes because the amps are constructed with the chassis inverted that probably confused when the instructions were compiled :D'oh!:

Re: KiT/KaT6550 and fuse blowing inrush current

I hope you get a good result, Chris. Maybe if you do this upgrade you could record it here for the interest of others.

I should emphasise that the KiT/KaT 6550 is now an old amp and other areas...

Re: KiT/KaT6550 and fuse blowing inrush current

I believe if you choose Sowter UO82, looking at their current spec, there are some differences to wire colours. My advise would be to phone Sowter in the first instant and discuss with them what you...

Re: KiT/KaT6550 and fuse blowing inrush current

Sorry Chris, no. You have the option of surface mount Ďfully shroudedí or Ďdrop throughí. Fully shrouded can be used most easily as it requires the chassis to be drilled in four places to mount it...

Re: KiT/KaT6550 and fuse blowing inrush current

Itís not as simple as that, Neil. A change to coupling caps does not necessarily bring a better sound although they can, but it is more realistic to say they may change the sound to the owners...

Smile Re: KiT/KaT6550 and fuse blowing inrush current

I donít have a clue about alternatives either for the original Txís or for the Sowter option. What I do know is the Sowter option is a worthwhile and significant sound noticeable upgrade. If you are...

Re: Interconnects

Good point raised and I have full respect for Les Wolstenholme who I have met and shared knowledge with. I could easily put my crossovers close to my amp and then run cables to the speakers, but with...

Re: KiT/KaT6550 and fuse blowing inrush current

It’s not so much about how long the original output Tx’s will last but more about the improvement to sound the Sowter’s render. This is not insignificant and why I say a replacement pair at just...

Re: KEl34

Your best option on making a sale is to state the price you have in mind for it and of course to publish some pictures. Anything less and the likelihood is your advert will just sink with no response...

Re: Hi-Fi Journeys

Yes, I completely understand what I should have done, recording my second episode of My Hi-Fi Journeys. Certainly Iíll have a go at doing it again in due course, but itíll need me to find a time to...

Re: Hi-Fi Journeys

Sorry for the lack of update. Iíve just spent over two hours writing my next episode to see it disappear into the ether when I tried to upload it. Yes, my fault, I should have saved it and reapplied...

Re: The Puffin DSP phono/preamp

Anyway, optical cartridges are the new thing, and although they are expensive at the moment, no doubt the prices will drop as more manufacturers get involved and the technology develops. They...

Re: The Puffin DSP phono/preamp

I find that a bit disingenuous. You are implying that unless we check out the Puffin, we are all Luddites. I for one have explored many avenues before settling for what I currently use and this...

Hi-Fi Journeys

My Hi-Fi Journey Part 1

My Hi-Fi journey started when I was quite young. My parents loved classical music and I learnt this love for it from them. This led to me frequently listening with them and...

Re: Is there anybody out there?

Well it seems there are a few of us still around. It would be good to bring a bit of life back to this forum, Iím inclined to think that going towards a general hi-fi discussion in the general room...

Re: KiT/KaT6550 and fuse blowing inrush current

Hi Philip,

On the amp I worked on I in the end converted it from power to integrated.

I introduced the simple mains filter together with the inrush current limiter as suggested by John. I also...

Stuart, I do not speak Spanish. In fact my only language is English and I have much admiration for people who are bi or multi-lingual, yourself included.

When anyone uses a foreign (to me) phrase...

‘Asi es la Vida’ makes much more sense to me and it then becomes appropriate for a hi-fi forum, English or otherwise.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your explanation. Please leave your coat on its...

Re: Punchy bass

Glad you remain happy with your Sextet’s.

Just a note. Esta la vida does not actually mean a lot. Esta es la vida is more comprehensible albeit, I’m not sure it is relevant at the end of a post on...

Re: WD25t drive units and crossovers

I suggest you stop dreaming and post a price you want for the cabinets, but better, your sale of the complete speakers which surely will govern the most interest even if it would be a ‘pick up’ deal...
