Re: Variac recommendations

Hi Adam, I have and use a 3 amp variac, it also gives a voltage increase up to 300 volts, I think this size is all that is required for our hobby. Bob

Re: PLZ pre-preamp

Stuart, I think you are wrong, this is a step up amp for MC cartridges, so with that gain you do go into the MM side of the phono, I did and it was very loud compared to my step up transformers, they...

Re: PLZ pre-preamp

I have one of these, I did try it with my Kontropunkt, feeding it into Phono III MM, it worked OK but never had it working for long, as Richard said, it has no RIAA, just a simple step up. Bob

Re: Where to from here...?

Hi Richard, I think I am correct when saying that WD is more of a hobby than a business to Matthew, he has added a few small but helpful accessory to his product range and the addition of another...

Re: Hum issues on transformer output preamp

House wiring is simple Andy, as long as it's all fitted tight, I doubt that your problem is with the mains, going back to your mention of the Aikido, I adore mine, no hum at all, very easy to live...

Re: Hum issues on transformer output preamp

Andy, I had this very issue with Pre II, what happens if you remove just one interconnecting plug from your pre to power amp, left or right dose it go silent ?, and as soon as you reconnect the hum...

Re: New build WDPhono 3 Questions; heater voltage/LED

OK Graham, it looks like you have omitted, or fitted the small round black insulator from the regulator chip's heat sink upside down, the larger part should be upper most, the regulator heat sink...

Re: New build WDPhono 3 Questions; heater voltage/LED

I think we should now look at the PSU, it points to the voltage regulator or the two resistors that form the potential divider, more pictures please and bigger if possible, again, please solder both...

Re: New build WDPhono 3 Questions; heater voltage/LED

My only comment Graham is, are one of your LED tails contacting the chassis, they need to come out straight, and please solder both sides of the valve bases for mechanical strength. Bob

Re: WDVA88 XL What speakers are you using?

Just to add my bit, I too use the same amp as you albeit the single input, with Monitor Audio PL 100 Mk II, fabulous sound and at the 12 o'clock position, very loud, I think Greg has a point, are you...

Re: cathode bypass capacitors in pre3, omitting them?

Andy, don't forget that the PSU III powers 5 valves, plus two small relays, your choice of two 6SN7's should be no problem unless you are also asking PSU III to power a phono as well. Bob

Re: Is this a decent price?

It's all about quantity, if Matthew had 10000 made I am sure he could sell them for about 8.00 and still make a profit, now a one off may cost about 200.00. Bob
