Re: WDVA88 XL What speakers are you using?

The Phono RCA sockets should be wired in but at line level same as all the other inputs, so yes, connect your phonostage there as you suggest. Have you still got your EL34 to make direct comparison?...

Re: New build WDPhono 3 Questions; heater voltage/LED

Yes, indeed. Furthermore, Iíve never found the need to use additional flux except when I fitted a new central heating system:D

Re: WDVA88 XL What speakers are you using?

Although the WD88VA has a separate phono input, it does not have the necessary phono stage pre amplifier. You need one of these as otherwise the signal from your TT will be too weak and the...

Re: Easy speaker placement

I have a suspended wooden fully carpeted floor in my listening room which is also our lounge. The floor being made with soft Pine allowed my spiked WAD KLS3 speakers to slowly sink through the carpet...

Re: KEL34 just acquired

Sorry Phil, I havenít a clue, but go onto AT and PM Ray P or Thermionic Idler as theyíve both used Front Panel recently. Ray would be your best bet as he has done the sort of thing you are talking...

Re: KEL34 just acquired

I wouldnít use a nylon bolt to mount the Tx. You want to torque this fixing up tight. Nylon wonít do it.

Your old O/P Tx covers are probably cadmium plated. Youíll never get them to buff up well...

Would love to see pics.

Load them onto a hosting forum and then link them. Dead easy to do.

Re: Speakers for my Kel84

Yep, a beautiful island completely dependent on EU subsidy inhabited by people who hate the EU. Makes you wonder if we are in a better place?

Re: Speakers for my Kel84

Considering your budget and the need for a margin of sensitivity, I would be inclined to look at a kit build, possibly with a single full range driver. Have a look at Fonkens. They can sound...

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

Good point, Chris. I agree. Millennium Tweeter is now £225 each. Why take the risk?

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

Some further thoughts. My experience is that replacing electrolytic caps with the much larger polypropylene equivalents is a no brainier. This brings a massive improvement to sound albeit that the...

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

In a passive crossover, I’d not drop below a 250v rating, but more knowledgable people may differ and prove me wrong. Certainly in general 600v is over the top, 400v is also probably higher than...

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

Ha ha, Chris. Iíve just worked out that if I followed your Mundorf and PathAudio recipe for my KLS3ís, the bill would be £1866.62 plus postage. Moderation and compromise may be key here. I use the...

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

Where the value allows, I used the 400v version as they are more than adequate. They are smaller which is helpful and if you buy through Falcon Acoustics, can be obtained matched within 2% of the...

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

My WAD KLS3ís are now fitted with the Seas Millennium tweeter. I built the treble filter with Mills resistors and Solen polypropylene caps and the high register sound is truely magnificent. The best...

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

I’m not sure I agree with that advise. Maybe this Tony works for Cornell. If you bypass your Soniqs caps, you’ll just be changing the value of that particular cap which may mess up the frequency...

Re: Crossover components rolling ?

Yes, itís a budget and space thing. If, like mine your crossovers are external, you have more flexibility as size can be accommodated more easily. Golden rule is replace any electrolytic caps with...

Re: Simple Mains Filter and Spike Suppressor

This all seems a bit beyond a simple mains filter that costs about 3/6d.:D
