Re: Phono II advice Please!

A better way to increase impedance whilst keeping the 20K Pan pot would be to add a couple of small 20K fixed metal film resistors to the pot input terminals. It would then look like a 40K pot to...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Hi Phil, I'm reading it that both pots are adjustable so the 20K will function as normal if the 50K has its wiper wound down to ground. (Zero vol would be with both wipers fully down on the drawing.)

Re: Phono II advice Please!

You could give it a go depending on the volume pot position you normally listen at.

Due to the way a log track is scaled most of the resistance is on the series end of the divider (above the wiper...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Re pots the 100K Panasonic for Audio was about the best I found, sweet, detailed and neutral. Alps 27 is a fraction of the price but always had a signature fog to my ears. Perhaps your Pan 20K...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

20K is a bit low if Phono has 4K output. WAD used a 100K pot (which mostly sets the input impedance) on original Pres and there may be some loss of frequency response. Certainly worth checking,

Re: PSU II High Voltage at Test Point 4

Just re-reading and Andy's post 11 would be an explanation.
The zeners are cheap though so I'd probably just buy a few and change it, check and go over any suspect soldering, and try the voltages...

Re: PSU II High Voltage at Test Point 4

The earth lift is 100R so almost no effect unless it is faulty. If the neg probe is on the earth post and Fred is getting (any) readings at the zener the earth post must be connected.
Agreed, my...

"Hi Richard & Bob, checked as above and both sides of zener give a reading of 379V. I assume this means the diode is dead & needs replacing. If thatís the case I will order one and replace...

Re: PSU II High Voltage at Test Point 4

Yes check as Bob says.

Your 376V instead of 325V may be due to higher mains and also to having no Pre2 load as that voltage is not regulated and will be lower with load.

Re: PSU II High Voltage at Test Point 4

Hi Fred,

Check where you're putting the earth probe. 367V is about 40V higher than it should be even if ZD1 has failed - we'd expect 325v.

The heaters are raised 40V and I wonder if you have...

Re: KEL84 from the recycling centre

Perhaps regarding the wiring drawing but the inputs and speaker post assemblies are shown red on the same side whichever way you look at it. Here's KIT88 from the similar era and the wiring drawing...

Re: KEL84 from the recycling centre

I think all WAD/WD build sheets show the red speaker post at the bottom and I built mine that way too. The KEL84 instructions also show right channel inputs on the top in the wiring drawing and on...

Re: KEL84 Conundrum/advice

Hi Richard, a few thoughts, EL84s tend to last 1-2000 hours when run at their full 12W dissipation as in KEL84. (Remember they will be doing this even at idle regardless of playing music so switch...

Good to hear that Andy.

You definitely should have no problem selecting and playing an album or track almost the same as you'd choose the music from a CD on the shelf,

As you suspect there...

That's excellent thanks Mark. That's exactly how radio works on my set up and it may be easier to make a play list of favourite stations as remembering where they are can be a game. The only real...

The app is easy to load; search Squeezer from Play Store, it's the orange square icon with white android in it.

The app...
