Re: KEL84 v KT88

My 6550 has no discernible hum following Matthew's ministrations. Apart from that briefly generated by some component failures, it has never hummed. (Saved me a fortune in deodorant). I have dabbled...

Re: A gun, wax and hearing problems.

Agreed - they are an acquired taste but perseverance does bring rewards; I'm quite lost without mine.

And they provide additional benefits too. I have the de luxe models which have volume control...

Re: Members Pets Foaties

When we lived in the States, we adopted a Chow/Keeshond cross rescued by the American Humane Society from the 29th floor of a Miami condominium and where she had been caged for nearly a year. She was...

Re: SME & Garrard

I am confused. I was convinced I had seen references to Scotts, Healeys and something else in this thread; this was why I had continued the biking analogy. Now I cannot find anything at all about...

Re: SME & Garrard

A long time ago, before even I was born, Garrard produced the Rolls Royce of spring-wound turntables. Naturally, these were intended for 78rpm records but by the early 'thirties it was recognised...

Re: Maplins going under as well

So correct and so sad.

Before being reduced to the "King of Darkness" by having to produce OE stuff for the British motorcycle and car industries at prices wholly inconsistent with a product of...

Angry Re: Maplins going under as well

Agree with all that's been said but a bit surprised at the inclusion of Tandy. They are not to be numbered among the good guys as in their own right and as owners of Radioshack, they killed off much...

Re: Another set of secondhand speakers

Metal roofing panels are truly excellent. They can prove a little noisy in heavy rain - which doesn't worry me as I was brought up under corrugated iron - but adequate sound attenuation can eliminate...

Re: No new post's.

Well, I'm still here, although only just.

Suffering incipient transient ischemic attack from New Year's honours list. I have long held that this is an obscene custom, showering so-called honours...

Smile Re: Updated website plus ...

From me too. The inclusion of a remote volume control is a welcome advance and if I might be allowed to say so, long overdue.

I have no need of a pre-amp but I'm wondering if the remote facility...

Re: A gun, wax and hearing problems.

Oh dear. I'm afraid that I'm yet another victim of the audiology scam.

I have had two pairs over the last five years and they both cost around £1500 although I have to say that I am pleased with...

Re: A gun, wax and hearing problems.

I have the occasional irrigation - of the ears that is, not the type publicised years ago in Exchange and Mart - in the hope that things might improve but they never do. It's really irritating having...

Re: Architects are idiots

Well, mercifully (and for them too, I imagine), I am far removed from my nearest neighbours so I am spared having to share my Bach and intimate domestic details but that does not preclude me from...

Re: Sony Music goes back to vinyl records

[QUOTE=Black Stuart;87083]Greg,
you summed it up in your last post very well. Of course my hearing is not what it was when I was a young man but it's still above the norm for my age.

Lucky you!...

Flippin' 'eck - only 67? Cor, I wish I was.

The good news is that you will still be able to ride in 10 years - I'm living proof!

Enjoy it.

Re: Starting a vinyl collection – is it worth it for classical music?

Wisdom here.

My first decent turntable was a Garrard 201 which started with an American Bush arm followed by a home-made contraption followed by a Burne Jones Watts linkage gizmo followed by a...

Re: 1959 Audiophiles film

Re: A tale of synchronicity

Well, you have done a lot better than me.

I was assisting at the start of the 1974 and '75 runs, starting at the Castle Gardens park. I've not had any involvement with the Banbury since then but...

Philip - you know me better than that.

Of course it's for riding; I am the object of art.

Bob - the Banbury remains a good run. I have been a VMCC marshal on a couple of occasions but...

No, as in four cylinder, overhead cam, shaft drive. But it does have electric ignition and lights!

It's unusual!
