Re: WD/WAD PSU PHONO II Choke upgrade
Ok, impressions are there is not a lot of difference. There may be a very slight improvement in clarity / separation of voices and instruments but nothing jaw dropping and I could be imagining it. ...

Re: K5881 - New comer!
If it's an original it may have been built by Nick Lucas, anyhow there where three versions of this amp the Mk I with EF86 input valve, the over sensitive MKII with 7025 SRPP input and the Parallel...

Re: WD/WAD PSU PHONO II Choke upgrade
I've only had a very brief listen yesterday Greg and can't say I noted any jaw dropping differences. I need more time with it, I only use it now to power my PhonoII which draw very little current so...

Re: Feedback fun with K5881 - Re-visited!
Brilliant description Richard! Apologies to David for not getting 'round to answering. There's another route you could take with this splitter design but its a more involved so I won't go into...

Re: Feedback fun with K5881 - Re-visited!
V1 is a Cathode follower (DC connected in the K5881) so gain is less than unity, V2 is effectively a grounded grid stage so the gain differs between V1 and V2 hence the different load resistors. The...

Re: Feedback fun with K5881 - Re-visited!
There's another tweak you can try, the kit is supplied with equal size anode resistors for the splitter R9/R10 at 150K 2 or 3W. This gives a slight imbalance to the phase outputs at high frequency....

Re: Feedback fun with K5881 - Re-visited!
Wow that takes me back! Sheer coincidence finding this thread, I was following a link to another and just hit Todays Posts! I still have this mod on my K5881, and although I don't use the amp much...

Re: Phono 3 Cartridge Loading
Yes, thats right Greg, AFAIK they are 4K7, 10K, 15K, 22K, 33K, 47K...these where the values I had to hand...TBH I only use 47R and 100R for cartridge loading, Ortofon KB at 47R and DL103R at...

Re: Phono 3 Cartridge Loading
YMMV Greg but I prefer a lower load on the Kontra B, currently use 47R with the same SUT you have, its worth experimenting with... even try 10R...

Re: Upgrading WAD Phono 2 to WD Phono 3
With the CCS Greg one thing I found that helped it even more was Richards added decoupling cap and resistor located in PhonoII along with a .1uF bypass cap. Seemed to improve the bass line and added...

Re: Upgrading WAD Phono 2 to WD Phono 3
Hi Greg, I use the 5751's and find them very good with low noise. For upgrades did you not put a CCS on the first stage? Fuzzy memory but I thought I made one for you yonks ago...for me this made...

Re: Pre II cathode follower cap value
No, not critical Adrian. The original cct from WAD used 33nF, I've tried 33nF, 47nF and 100nF but I can't hear any difference.

Re: 6.2 or 6.3 ?
It will make no difference whatsoever if it's 6.2 or 6.3. A tolerance of +/- 5% is perfectly acceptable.

Oh I think it is. You can re-clock the SB if you want with a Tent XO, I have as have many others.

Re: new cdplyer or dac?!
When streaming to an SB the PC isn't re-clocking anything. It's sending asynchronous data packets (Ethernet) to the SB. The SB strips the Ethernet Frame and re-constructs the data, if it's FLAC...

Re: new cdplyer or dac?!
Glad to read you know what you want but if the HD crashes and you have 80Gb worth of stored music then you *will* lose, you will lose time... a lot. Re-loading all that data is a PIA.
You don't...

Re: new cdplyer or dac?!
You don't need a super dooper PC to run a SB. There are many entry level servers to be had for under 150UKP new or even lower on the second hand market.
Load up something like Ubuntu Linux,...

I still have...
