Re: Phono II advice Please!

I would now try the CF with the Alps, you could be surprised. I too use and like the JJ tubes, had mine for over 20 years. On the subject of the shunt pot mod as has been mentioned, try this by all...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Now I know this may be stupid, but, have you connected the phono to the correct outlet on the Power supply ? it is quite possible that you plugged into the Pre outlet and this is only 100 volts as...

Re: HT regulated PSU VI

Thanks for the reply John, if it could be done, I would take two immediately, and no doubt others would follow, as I see it, 250 volts regulated could drive both Pre and Phono, please correct me if I...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Lyndon, if your Phono has had very little use, then the supplied valves will be fine, try some different ones by all means, but you may find it is money wasted, I know I did :D'oh!:, I still think...

Re: HT regulated PSU VI

Hi Andy, yes I know what you have and it is because of this that I did my own mod ( bodge ) as said I use two power supply's, one for the Phono III and the other for my JB Akidio, but I think it...

HT regulated PSU VI

Hi all, after converting ( or bodging would be a better description ) my two PSU III's with HT regulators, one at 200 volts and the other at 250 volts and hearing a better sound, this was before my...

Re: KEL84 Conundrum/advice

Oh, please don't use that fraise Richard, they don't burn, bonfires burn and look what happens to them, the valves will as time goes by wear out, the emissions get less with time, so saver the sound...

Re: Pimping a PSU3?

This Hammond mod I did to one of my power supply's, it did nothing, there was no hum in the first place, the best course of action is low ESR capacitors and a HT regulator,
both my power supply's...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Lyndon, the Pre II was, in my opinion, because I had one, crap, the Pre III however is light years better, as would be the Pre III CF from Mathew, but for me I use a John Bronski Akido Cathode...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Well Lyndon, the CF would have been my choice and the passive would quite possibly be the reason for poor sound, the CF as you most probably know has no gain, but nor does the passive, what the CF...

Re: PSU II High Voltage at Test Point 4

OK, so this gets interesting, the earth lift resistor should be 100 ohms 5 watt and Andy's post corrected my post in as much that the Zener must be open circuit to 0 volts, it appears that the Zener...

Re: PSU II High Voltage at Test Point 4

Not dead, but, short circuit, if you don't use the Pre output, you may be better to do away with the Zenner and reconfigure the PSU to PSU III, it is only a couple of large resistors that need...

Re: Pimping a PSU3?

Hi John, most would advise building as is and then upgrading, but, I see no reason why you should not replace the HT diodes with Schottky type although, you do not need and it is not good advice to...

2, as 1
3, How about sealing your room and installing a large vacuum pump to get a vacuum more than 20 mm mercury, you will also need breathing apparatus....

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Sorry Lyndon, I can not understand whether it is the Phono II or the KLP1 that you are unhappy with, I use Phono III and have used Phono II, that replaced a Linn Linto phono stage and I am very happy...

Re: PSU II High Voltage at Test Point 4

Fred, check from earth post, with neg probe and both sides of the Zenner, ZD1, with pos probe, if the Zenner is working you should see about 110 volts DC on one side and about 370 on the other. Bob
