Re: Well I simply can't believe this....!

Hi Neil,

Although I have not used them in the same positions, (so I could be wrong) having fitted a few of both, my impression is that the Mundorfs sound better the the "standard" Audionote ones....

Re: Well I simply can't believe this....!

Hello Neil,

I recently changed the PSU electrolytics in my Kat88 (Mundorfs) and found this to be very worthwhile. Mine were about 20 years old.

Re: WAD KiT 88 to WD KT88?

Hello Fred,

Its all been said really but I will also pipe up and say get rid of the PIO caps.
They are simply not reliable. I tried them myself many years ago and had a couple fail and have also...

Re: KT88 choice

Hello Tony,

Thanks for that info. I am still happily using the JJs for now but trying something different is always a temptation. I will view the TADs with caution.

Re: Heavy metal

It might be worth contacting Matthew, he may well know.
I used bathroom scales to weigh my record deck, do you have any?

Re: CF - mounting by-pass switch

Hello Graham,

I've not thought it through fully but you might be able to fit a double pole changeover relay at the input, that bypasses the active stage. If this was powered by the heaters,...

Re: WD Pre III CF

Hello Mark.
The heaters are raised to protect the CF valve. Measure on the 2 heater wires, not to 0V, although it looks close (7 volt difference)

The HT will be high with no load as it is not...

Re: Phono 2 CF

If you have not experienced any problems with a load as low as 10k, perhaps a low load, though not ideal from an electrical point of view, in the real world is not all that significant.

My...

Re: Phono 2 CF

If that is the case then yes, nothing to worry about but I got the figure from here:

I have no wish to start an argument but there does...

Phono 2 CF

Hello all, a question for the technically knowledgeable.

Is there any reason that the cathode follower valve in the Phono could not be changed for a ECC82 to lower its output impedance?
Obviously...

Re: Mundorf Mlytic HV caps

Hello Richard,

Yes, those are the ones I used. Fitting was easy, the pins are on the correct pitch and the overall size of the caps was fine. The pins are straight rather than kinked like a...

Mundorf Mlytic HV caps

Hello all,

Just thought I would report my experience with the above caps.
Some while back I replaced the main PSU cap in my Phono with one of these and was very pleased with the result. A couple...

Re: More top end required

Hello Graham,

If I remember correctly, your Phono has a Soniqs cap as the o/p coupling cap which should be fine to leave for now but the 0.1uF between the first 2 stages is an "orange drop". This...

Re: K5881 hum / buzz

Generally, the volume pot would be mounted on the metal chassis and its case therefore earthed. If it needs to stay on the piece of wood, I would be tempted to connect a wire to the pot (trapped...

Re: Kel84 - omg!

Well done Adam,

Yes, they are a great sounding amp. I used mine happily for 10 years before finally moving onto one of the bigger amps as it suited my speakers and musical taste a little better....

Re: JR149 speakers

Yes, bigger than my lounge as well, that's about 10.5 x 14 and has my 12" Tannoys in!
Nice little system Richard, the QUAD gear looks lovely.

Re: How is everyone’s hearing?

Last time I checked, I could hear up to about 13kHz I think.

Supertweeters are funny things. I have a pair of Townhsend audio jobs and despite my hearing range I can hear when they are switched...

Re: Swapping out valves

Hello Jonny,

Generally, earth terminals on the back of equipment are to connect an external piece of equipment too, like earthing a tonearm, not to provide an earth to the box it is fitted to....

I'm sure they will be just the job for your intended use. Don't take my comments too seriously, they are just not my kind of speaker. A friend of mine who had the KEF constructor...

A little sad but believable

Just heard on the radio that HiFi has been removed from the "basket of goods" used to calculate inflation.

Re: Best new manufacture 12ax7s

Hello Lee,

I think a consensus on something like that is fantasy frankly :)

Better to just ask for suggestions I would say.

I have not tried many but my current favourite for my phono is the...
