Re: Cv378

Does it have to be a CV378? It's equivalent to a GZ37 or a GZ33 would have a higher current rating.
Hope that helps a bit.

Re: WAD Pre II Conversion to Cathode Follower

There's a solution, and guaranteed to work. What's not to like?

Next months edition of HFW should carry the review Matthew if you haven't been informed already. I look forward to it.

Re: WAD Pre II Conversion to Cathode Follower

Just picked up on this thread.
I did a 9 pin broskie ACF job in a pre 3 case. as far as i know they are the same size as the pre 2 case.
It all fitted nicely inside, I also got the Hi Fi collective...

Re: SME & Garrard

I had one of the brazilian Direct drive garrard turntables back in the 80s. Not brilliant but did the job for me at the time.
As far as I know, the current owner of SME, cadence, is owned by an...

Re: SME & Garrard

IGB Graiente SA were the owners of the garrard brand greg.
They were being made in brazil in the end.
So its just an accquisition of the name from the current registered owners.
The Loricraft...

Re: E Bay fraudsters.

Wot greg says.............

I guess for any sort of high value item as Philip described, the old "Caveat Emptor" advice is paramount.
A genuine seller would never object to a purchaser asking to...

Re: KEL84XL build

1. I agree with bob re the orange drops capacitors. I know it will get us hung but I never felt the need to "upgrade" the orange drops on my phono3S and Bob reckoned they were as good as the...

Re: KEL84XL build

I had an awful time solving a really bad hum issue on my Phono3S, bought used and allegedly built "Professionally".
Thanks to the patient advice from John, Richard Bob etc etc I eventually traced...

Re: KEL84XL build

Sounds like classic hum loop to me.

You could try "semi balanced" cables to the power amp. thats using 2 core screened cable, using the inner cores for the signal circuit and connecting only one...

Re: KEL84XL build

Looking at that preamp I reckon its probably some sort of hybrid with an octal cathode follower. 180R seems a bit low but not unfeasible from such a CF. which should match into the WD inputs just...

Re: KEL84XL build - now Mains Hum!

If you get a signal when only the centre pin of an RCA phono plug is connected, there MUST be a return to signal earth back to the source. It's a basic and simple rule of electrical circuits. End of....

It wasn't all crap Bob.

I went in yesterday and hoovered up a few bits and bobs including a couple of the rather nice small hammond project cases for half price and 20m of 79 strand speaker wire...

Re: WDKT88VA Rubuild Time

I got very lucky with the GE 6550A. Bought at a swapmeet a good while back and I reckon I'd pay 4 x the amount for a set now.

Re: WDKT88VA Rubuild Time

Just thinking, I have an odd svet winged C KT88 here. You are welcome to it if it makes a quad up. I'll stick it in the amp and make sure it's still ok.

Re: WDKT88VA Rubuild Time

Don't ignore the Chinese KT88, in the WD amp they'll not be run hard. I have a set of Brimar branded KT88 and they sound pretty sweet to me. I think they are Chinese manufacture and you can get a...

Re: WDKT88VA Rubuild Time

Ok

Firstly,
You can use KT90 as a straight drop in, I was given a bunch of these and after getting a mate to test them I tried them in the amp.
Frankly, don't waste your time. They are fine and...
