Vintage Goldring G800. Pleasantly surprised!

Hi folks.

I've had an old G800H cartridge in the toybox for a couple of years, paid a fiver for it at Tonbridge a couple or 3 years ago. Minus the diamond on the end of the cantilever. It had a...

Re: tonbridge audiojumble

I won't be at Tonbridge this time chaps.
Unfortunately a prior social engagement prevents me, and mrs nut won't be too pleased if I disappear for a weekend!
However this does mean there's money in...

Re: help tapping screw threads

I may be wrong here but i was told that Torx heads were developed by Ford for a number of practical reasons.

Colin, Aldi are flogging a tap and die set for 16 just now. If its only for a few odd...

Interesting your mention of metal roof panels Stuart.
We are at the start of sorting out the dormer area of our bungalow to make it into something more practical and future proof for me and...

Re: that 2 colour LED on KT88

Thanks guys.
I'm ok for valves in the short term, I have a set of Chelmer KT88 that are fine but of unknown hours of use. And half a dozen KT90 and 6550A from Chelmers, again unknown hours but all...

that 2 colour LED on KT88

Until today I thought the bicolour LED power indicator on the WD88 was a bit of unnecessary decoration. After all I can see if the filaments are lit up so the red segment isn't needed, and if the HT...

Re: Rarely Seen WAD, Andy Groves Designed, IC Phonostage

Just a mad barmy thought.
Would a pair of MC step up transformers be acceptable to you?
That would certainly allow you the option of switchable mm/mc inputs.

Andy.

Re: Sonic Signatures of Volume Controls

Logic would certainly suggest that. That's assuming that the stepped attenuator is in fact a ladder type, that is, a series of switched potential dividers. 2 resistors in the chain at any setting....

Re: Help Required to Find a Transformer

I reckon you are right Bob.
Maybe Mark is now a bit overwhelmed with all the suggestions from other forum users?
Mark, if you are reading this can you clarify what exactly your requirements are ,...

Re: Help Required to Find a Transformer

Don't know if this idea would help, but here goes....

How about a relatively easy to find 2x75V toroid or possibly an EI job if there are commercial ones out there?
You'd use a bridge rectifier...

Re: My Cathode follower with active load.

A thought just sprang to mind Bob.
You are using that board configured as a White CF? I see the latest design of it (mines an earlier one) allows you to configure the circuit as white CF rather than...

Re: Balanced circuits for Pre/phono/psu 2and3

Heres a question.
I'm finally looking to put a version of pre3 together.
The idea of balanced output appeals to me as I like to put the power amps behind and close to the speakers and drive them...

Re: Wanted - Mullard GZ34

Agree with bob here.
The only perceived advantage I can see of using a Mullard or other NOS type is that if you are pushing it hard, the newer versions don't seem to be up to the higher current...

Re: WD Phono 3 - DC on Output?

AH alles is klaar.
I have to say a 47k input Z for a modern power amp seems a bit low but i guess it keeps noise down. Then again the WD power amps only have 100k input, and the original kel 84 as i...

Re: WD Phono 3 - DC on Output?

NO!!!!!
As I said earlier, most of the WD kit uses a 100k or 47k input pot. As does an awful lot of solid state kit these days.
There's no issue with impedance matching, the biggest issue here is...

Re: KEL 34 E&I Version, PCB needed

How difficult would it be to rebuild it on tagboard subassemblies like the WDKT88 amp? Might be worth a punt and cheaper in the long run than commissioning a PCB? I never liked the idea of power...
