Re: Favourite budget MC Tx.

Hi Richard,

I suppose an active is a possibility, not really considered that.
Mmmm, even more research needed then!

Re: Favourite budget MC Tx.

Hello Bob,

You don't happen to know which model your Lundahls are do you? They do quite a range.
Thanks for the offer on the WDs but no need yet, I'm just at the scouting out ideas stage, I don't...

Favourite budget MC Tx.

Hello all,

Firstly, I hope you are all well.

The question of going to a moving coil has raised its head again in my mind and never having used one, I don't have any transformers so I would need...

Re: Hum from Pre3 Cathode/Follower and WDKT88

Hi Graham,

You have moved your gear you say, so are you using different mains sockets to before or perhaps a different extension lead? A poor earth connection is a possible cause, check things...

Re: How many pairs of speakers do you own?

Mmm, two and a half for me.

Tannoy Cheviots in my main system, a pair of Wilmslow Audio designed "mini monitors" in my second system and a single speaker in the kitchen. A few years back I got a...

Re: Any suggestions re; KiT6550 brightness?

Hi Tony,

Glad to hear you have things on an even keel and are enjoying your music again.
Yes, inside a valve power amp is possibly the worst place to put a PIO cap despite their popularity for...

Re: Pre Amp wire

Thanks Richard,

Shortly after I built it, Matthew introduced his little PCB for the Alps pot which would have been neater/easier. If I ever build another one I would probably use that instead.

Re: Pre Amp wire

The case is not connected to the signal earth, I connect the earth post on the back, to the earth post on my power amp with an external cable. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Hello Phil, for another variation, mine is a shunted Alps blue (Charcroft z foil) and PTFE sleeved silver wire.

Re: K5881 Mk1 mods

Hello Phil,

1, The input capacitor is a safety precaution, in most cases sources won't have any DC on the output. It is down to your discretion as to remove it or not.

2, Generally, increasing...

Re: Any suggestions re; KiT6550 brightness?

Mmmm, it is difficult to think what might cause this. Perhaps if the some cathode decoupling electrolytic caps were drying out and going low in value it would cause that but you might expect that to...

Re: Any suggestions re; KiT6550 brightness?

It does sound odd that the sound should change like that. Can you confirm that it is on all sources just to be sure it is the amp?
I think I would be inclined to suspect some outside cause, have you...

Re: New forum member

Welcome Merlin, from another Cheviot user.
I've had mine over 10 years and no plans to change. I used them for many years with a Kel84 but now with a Kat88. Once you get your amps sorted I'm sure...

Re: Phono II advice Please!

Hi Lyndon,

A couple of us have recently had good results with Mundorf Mlytic caps in PSU positions.
They might be worth a look.

Hello Neil,

Yes, still using the JJs. I had kind of forgotten about them if that makes sense.

Yes, I had seen this elsewhere. I suppose that with the increased interest in vinyl, they are struggling to meet demand. If they want to keep everything in house (which SME probably do) something has...

Re: Ecf80 heater supplies kel 84

Strange that you could not get the normal mod to work as many, including myself have fitted it with no problems and found the sound improved. Glad to hear that this approach worked for you.

Re: Phono II advice Please!

That should be fine. It was just a thought that if it was very low in value it might have been loading the o/p of the Phono too much and effecting performance.
