Re: WAD Kt 88 our integrated schematic

Thanks Matthew.

If I might offer a couple of closing arguments m'Lud.

On Phil's point, in which he is wholly correct, the converse is also true. If a designer is not an employee but a...

Re: WAD Kt 88 our integrated schematic

Hey Bob, You sure about that? WD could hold, for example, exclusive licences for commercial manufacture of the designs while the design copyrights could still be vested in the designers. Just a...

Re: SEAS and Scanspeak Drive units

I've dealt with John buying components just on the cusp of his selling that side of his business to HiFi Collective. That said he sorted out my order by return so I can't envisage there being any...

Re: Using the digital output on TV

Yes all the time. I have 3 optical connections to my AV amp - TV, BD, PVR. Sound quality is as good as I expect it can be and there is a lot of detail in most programmes lost when using the TV's...

Re: Nagaoka MP 110 Cartridge.

Going back to the original question re channel separation, checking on the Vinyl Engine cartridge database my Shure V15 (running an original stylus, Philip) is quoted as >30dB. The 1042 is quoted as...

Re: Nagaoka MP 110 Cartridge.

Another vote here for the Goldring 1042. I've had it for many years as the DNM variant and put in a new 1042 stylus last year to good effect.

I would like to try one of the Ortofons but as I...

Re: What would you do?

So that's one vote for a stylus, one vote for a cartridge and one vote for both.

Good job it wasn't a quiz! :p:

I have to admit being tempted by all the positive reviews the 2M series have...

What would you do?

Hi all,

Here's today's dilemma. Second system upstairs needs a new stylus - its a DNM Mica so a Goldring 12 or 42 will fit.

Do I
a) Buy a new stylus - I like the sound
b) Buy a new MM...

Re: 50 or 100k

I used a 50k alps, both shunted and straight, quite happily on the front of my kat6550 until I went active with a pre3 :D

Re: Amps that go thump in the night

Thanks chaps,

I never noticed the order that I turn things off except that the power amp must have been last before I put the new switch in. I'll have to watch what I'm doing and take note of...

Amps that go thump in the night

When I'm turning it off. Kat6550

If I turn it off by the switch on the back - it's OK
If I pull the plug out at the mains - it's OK

I put a mains rotary switch in a box - Lorlin type as used...

Hi David,

Yep, that would be me - a very similar if not the same issue as I had with my PhonoII as discussed and solved in this thread.

Re: PhonoII and PsuII - schematics and

Well it's a week further on and a few miles(?) of vinyl groove has passed under the stylus. It's all settling down quite nicely. But it ain't perfect yet. The biting top edge has gone but the...

Re: PreII and PsuII - schematics and

Hi Bob,

Clarity SAs are what i've put in. Much brighter sounding, in fact still rather biting on cymbals and "bridge pickup Strat" sounds. I've only played a dozen albums or so, so I'm hoping...

Re: Balanced mains supply

A little concerned by the OP in that link having to disconnected the earth wire from his wall socket to get it to provide the balanced voltage.

Is it double insulated?

Yes I pulled the Jupiters - on the basis that with DC on the outputs the bigguns looked ripe for changing. I also found that the right hand coupling cap had a blob of wax hanging right...

Re: PreII and PsuII - schematics and

I've found 1.7Vdc on the left output and 0.3Vdc on the right - positive at the pin with no signal input. Is this an issue at all? My novice brain tells me that C18/19 should block this. And if it...

Re: PreII and PsuII - schematics and

Hold hard everybody!

Sorry about this, I must have been on a different planet last night. I don't have a PreII. And I wouldn't have noticed my error if Dr John hadn't mentioned ECC88s and I'm...
