Re: Computer Problems Windows 7

Tell us what is in your startup items. We should be able to spot the standard ones.

Re: Ooooh lots of smoke! WD88

Think the 6550 is also a beam tetrode.

I use the tung-Sol re-issues and they are excellent. I have tried Svets, both 6550 and KT88 and Chinese in variety, but the Tung-Sols do it for me.

They...

Re: Inductance meter required

Not a problem. Just thought you would like to know that John is our resident expert in all things electronic.

Cheers.

Re: Inductance meter required

:D

Ella1985 - John IS the specialist! He just needs to borrow an inductance meter!

John - you know this better then I do but he last time I had to measure an inductance I built it into a tuned...

Re: suspicious email

The fact that no actual PM exists suggests that either the BB software was subverted to send these or that what should be private data within the BB is in the public domain. Urgent enquiries are...

Re: Hot and cool valves

Hi Bob

Check voltages at control grids which should all be virtually identical and voltages across cathode resistors. Any differences will denote differing extent of the valves' conduction. Use...

Re: Kel34 OPTX faulty?

Hmm..

The presence of fire on the anode lead made me suppose that the valve was drawing too much current but I failed to notice that the cathode voltage was low meaning insufficient current.

So...

Re: Kel34 OPTX faulty?

Hi

I can't see an OPT problem causing this issue as the voltage drop over the OPT primary half-winding is only a couple of volts. It looks very like V2 is conducting freely which suggests a...

Re: Phono3S Valve mixture?

Hi Colin

Not a straight swap - the heaters are 6.3v on pins 4&5, not 12.6v on 4&5 like ECC83. Easy rewire if heaters are not on PCB.

I found them to have even more gain than ECC83, which is I...

Re: KeL 34 info

Hi Derek

Having no idea about the OP's level of experience, I was just a bit worried that your post might have been read as the bias making the valve conduct rather than the conduction causing the...

Re: KeL 34 info

The 9v on the cathode comes from the voltage dropped across the cathode resistor by the current through the valve. So, if there is no current (because there is no working heater) there wil NOT be 9v...

Re: R13/R14 and C9/C10 of Kit34

As normally wired, the DC bias conditions on the pentode are set by the feedback resistor (560R?), whereas with the arrangement you describe, bias will be set by R13 (10R). In short, the valves'...

Let's remain helpful folks!

It is annoying to everyone when an item fails, so a bit of exasperation is quite understandable and I'm sure there is no attribution of blame intended.

Re: pre3 problems

Hi

Although synchronicity does not prove causality, it must be a reasonable assumption that the changes you made are the root cause of the issue. I think that this might narrow the matter down a...

Re: KEL34 and KiT88 Similar Enough?

Thanks Richard

I did not consruct the amp myself altough I have modded quite a bit of it. The cathode Rs are 220 and the bias is 13k/36K so it looks as though I can try this out.

I seem to...

KEL34 and KiT88 Similar Enough?

I'm making my head sore thinking about this.

Has anyone tried putting EL34s in a KiT88?

As far as I can see, the only difference between these two amps is the 150R bias resistor in the KiT88...

Seeking KEL34 Info

Hi

Does anyone have a copy of the one-page PCB layout diagram showing the positions of the 'put-through holes'?

A quick email with a copy would be hugely appreciated,

Thanks.
