Re: KLS14 speakers - any updates ?

If you built them with cheap standard crossover parts, a good start would be replacing them with Mills resistors and some better capacitors of your choice.

Really, what you need to ask yourself...

Re: Internal cabling on the 25t

This is not something I really understand but the Chord Company who's cables I like, use different insulation on their cables depending on whether they are plain copper or silver plated copper. They...

Re: KAT88 cathode resistors

Update.

I opened the amp up Friday and measured 510 on the anodes which worked out to a dissipation of about 29.5 W.
On the strength of this I thought I would go for 150 ohm resistors. This...

Re: KAT88 cathode resistors

OK thanks Greg,
Maybe if I have another look at the notes I will find an explanation, or maybe Richard will chip in.

KAT88 cathode resistors

Hello all,

As I have found them beneficial in the past, I was considering changing the o/p valve cathode resistors for Mills wire wounds from the standard green ceramic jobs.
My amp has the bias...

Re: WDXRS Supertweeters

Hello,
I don't know if this is any help but I use Townshend super-tweeters with my Tannoy D.Cs
What I would say they do for me is a general "opening out" of the midrange. They seem to just make...

Re: Quad ESL 57's with a Audax HD-3P Gold Dome Piezo Tweeter.

Hi again,

Yes, if you connect them in parallel with the Quads, using their own xover, no harm will be done.
They will be giving full output from 4.5KHz upward which is a huge overlap with the...

Re: Quad ESL 57's with a Audax HD-3P Gold Dome Piezo Tweeter.

Hello JohnG,

Why do you want to use these standard (all be it exotic) tweeters?
My understanding is that if people do anything with the 57s is is to add a purpose designed super-tweeter such as...

Re: X class cap

Hello again,

Just to clarify, I have plenty of X2 caps in the draw so I am not ordering 1 component plus carriage costs from RS/Farnell etc.

Will I need to fit a cap across both pairs of switch...

X class cap

Hello all,

A friend of mine has a KT88 which makes a bit of a switch off thump which he does not like so he has asked me to fit a suppressor cap to the switch. Is the current production switch a...

Re: KEL 84 parasitic osscilation

Hi David,

If it sounds that bad and the same on both channels it sounds like it has a fault, perhaps something wrong with the power supply.
Have you tested voltages around the circuit?
I would...

Re: The down side off getting old.

I'm very sorry to hear that BOB.
At the end of the day, we are all into hifi because of our love of music and to have it taken away must be very distressing.

Tannoy dust caps

Hello all,

I have removed the dust caps from my HPDs. My reason was that I far prefer the look of my Cheviots with the grills on, but as with most grills, they dull the sound a bit. I thought that...

Re: WD Phono 3 - DC on Output?

Yes A,

That is what I suggested in post 11. Not necessarily instability as such.
A 250v unregulated supply drifting around by a few tens of mV sounds entirely reasonable to me and then just...

Re: WD Phono 3 - DC on Output?

Hello Moley,

I really don't believe you have any DC leakage.
The 'phono' side of your o/p cap sits at about +150v or so, yet you are measuring a small + AND - reading on the op side. If the cap...

Re: Another Stupid Transformer Question

Hello David,

Maybe try a 400mA slow blow (T)
I believe toroidals are known for having a high inrush current.

Re: WD Phono 3 - DC on Output?

Hello moley,
I am not quite sure what you mean by "before and after" the resistor. A load resistor is connected between +ve signal out and ground.

My thought was that with very little load, the...
