With regard to removing the tape / source lettering, a fibre pencil works good, also very good for cleaning PCB copper tracks, don't use too much pressure or you will rub through the lacquer. BOB

Between listening sessions (about 35 hours now) and whilst waiting for my new volume pot to arrive, I had time to 'tidy up' the output transformer wiring and wire up the redundant 'source' switch as a 'mute'.

A new 50k pot has now been fitted (shunt modded) and I've been through a few valve variations.

It's sounding really sweet now, with Mullard ECF80s and Russian 6P14P-EBs currently. Bass notes are very clear and not lost in the mix. The 6P14Ps improve the lead edge a little over the JJs. The mids are smooth as you would expect. The top end 'edge' that was evident when I first obtained the amp has completely gone. The Mullards just have a bit more warmth / detail / clarity than the Edicrons, that have a drier sound. All round remarkably well sounding which ever you choose.

And just to say thanks again to everyone for their help and advice. Alan
