Default 6072 in phono

Hi all, I wonder if anyone has tried a 6072 tube as the final valve in phonoII or III, it has the same pin out, my reason for asking is that I am looking for a little smoother sound and this tube gets for being smooth. BOB

Hi Bob et al,
Can't see any reason why not, although it may affect the RIAA curve due to possible different capacities/Miller effect, and may affect gain, though I doubt it as it is a cathode follower.
Only real way to check is either measure it (long winded) or have look at it via an inverse RIAA network (Hagerman) and a square wave and tweak the variable capacitor, if you have one. This can be fitted to Phono 2. See FAQs, 3.18Ás mod

John
