Colin - Chassis?

Graeme - regarding a MultiMeter; Maplin sell the WhiteGold WG020 which is all I've needed to build my WAD Phono/PSU, to dig around in the 300B PP and to fiddle with my loudspeaker crossover.
This manual ranging DMM isn't as cheap as it used to be, but it can measure Inductance (to 20H), Capacitance (to 200μF), Current (10A), Resistance (200MΩ), Voltage (1000V DC, 750V AC) and more!

Colin,
WD have started to publicise their WD88VA - a 35 Watt Integrated Push-Pull which may float your boat?

Colin, the KEL84 will drive 89dB sensitivity speakers with ease and is quite happy into 'difficult' loads as well - it amazed everyone by driving electrostatics at a recent meet I hear.

Also the difference between 20W and 25W is hardly noticeable. A 3dB increase in SPL (Sound Pressure Level) requires double the power. So you would need to start looking, as Lord says, at 35 - 40W for a noticeable difference. If you want SE PP have a look at the 300B SE PP monoblocks on the WD catalogue.

No, you're not being dim, its me early in the morning in this unbearable heat! It affects the brain you know.

Should be

PSE

of course!

Thanks for the correction (just read Colin's post and continued blindly onwards). Perhaps it is time to create that acronym FAQ!

Single-ended push-pull of course. Normally used to reproduce the sound of one hand clapping.

Im not too bothered about the chassis. I was thinking of re finishing it anyway.
I got the circuit board populated last night, juts need to add the heater wiring.
It was pretty easy really. I pretty much built it just by refering to the parts list.
Im going to pop into town soon to get more solder and a multi meter, then ill get on with the wiring.

Graeme, this is an excellent post (as was your speaker one).

I too had decided to buy the amp and speaker kit but had held off as I was a little apprehensive. This post has shown the help availble from other members plus Peter and the speed of response is excellent (especially when you're eager to move on). The record of 'issues' will also be good when I order mine.

Just for now I will hold off until you post a final review (hopefully) of the two components working together.

Keep up the posts - in all their detail.
