Default 6550 integrated amp

HI i am new to this forum i have being very lucky to obtain a WAD 6550
integrated amp it is a part assembled amp when time allows i will start to finish it off some advise require what is the best cable to use to connect all the inputs to the selector switch plus cable for the speaker out puts as this is missing from the kit and has any body got any photos of a finished amp so i can have a look at as this would be a great help in my build ?
i build nixie clocks as a hobby so not new to soldering but this build will be much harder than i am use to is there any particular solder that is best suited for this build i intend on getting as much info on the building of the kit as possible be for i start so if any body has any tips for the build that would be a great help

think i have posted in the wrong part of the forum as the amp is a WAD6550 hope its not a problem

regards
steve

Hi Steve and welcome to the WD forum. You will get lots of good advice here.

If it were me, I'd probably use this screened silver plated copper wire for the job.: http://www.hificollective.co.uk/cata...15-p-4266.html It can be used for both purposes you mention. I recently used it on my Kecl82 for input and output purposes, and it's pretty good. It's usually considered best to use solder with a silver content for HiFi work.

Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the insides of a 6550 amp - but someone here will!

BTW, I have no connections with HiFi Collective - I just find them very helpful and quick to deliver.

Do you have the build instructions for the amp?

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum.
No WAD was the forerunner of WD so all is well.
I have to admit if I were you I would fit the relay input PCB to this amplifier as it will dispose of a great deal of somewhat messy wiring and tidy things up considerably.
All the parts can be obtained from Matthew at the address given on the intro, and there are plenty of people here who have done the same thing so will probably have plenty of photos of the way to do it.
The amount of info and knowledge here is quite wide so I doubt that you will catch anyone out.
Don't worry too much about types of solder, the standard 60/40 cored type is more than adequate for all types of work Multicore "Savbit" is excellent. I have used it for at least 60 years and still prefer it to all other types.
Let us know how you get on.

John

Hi,
I was digging through the filing cabinet for some info and found a printout from the WAD Days for the 6550 amp. I could get Mrs nut to scan it for me and forward it?
Its the circuit with ECF80 as first stage/phase splitter if that's the same as yours.

Andy.
