Yes they are, 'alekstel' is a regular seller and I have bought from him myself.
For that price you will not go wrong. He does the 6p14p-EV too, but they are twice the price...

Al,

Useful stuff. Thanks. I am running a KEL84 with the original JJ EL84s and I'm interested in a change. Alekstal doesn't seem to have any 6p14p-EV at the moment. Are there any other reliable sources you have used and could recommend ?

Thanks

Mark

Mark,
He has a set at the moment?
I do not have an ebay recommendation. I've had good service from a number of the old Russian Federation / Ukraine / Eastern Block sellers with 100% feedback. There are several quads up at the moment, really the choice is price, and if you want a matched set or not.

Apologies...just got back home.

I'm very ignorant of the apparent (and no doubt subjective) hierarchy of suitable valves/tubes.

Dave has offered : electro harmonix el84.(Thanks!). Are these OK/better than the Ebay ones mentioned/better than the stock valves?

In particular I need to get rid of my perceived bass 'boominess'. I had another comparison between the KEL84 and the DADA-modified Quad 306 and although there is very little difference between them, the Quad seemed to have better control. (The KEL84's mid-range though, is sublime).

Thanks,

Richard.

I've just ordered: Reflector 6P14P-EV.

It could be a month getting here from the Ukraine.

I'll post my impressions later.

Thanks everyone,

Richard.

I liked Valvo for the front end valves.

notwithstanding all other issues..

have you considered that the bass may be a bit tighter with the quad as the output impedance will likely be much lower. Is it possible that the boomy bass may have been psychological(i.e was always there) and swapping in the quad has fed your unease?
