Hi Richard,
Yes that's right. It was late 2016 I think and we reminisced about the Hi-Fi News Tabor, which was still my speaker at the time.
The red glow is a very new thing and I presumed it to be the valve on its way out. The 300B empty boxes I took away with me on the day were black ones so I presumed that the amp was fitted with standard EH's but from your comment it sounds like maybe they were indeed gold grids.

Hi Lyndon,
Nice to hear from you again. Yes my brother had Tabors I do remember us chatting
Just checked and I've had my present amp nearly 7 years so it's been quite a while since Gerry and I were both using the same WAD 300B stereo amps.
We went down to Hotrox here in Nottm back then and I thought he bought GG but if they're black boxes they'll be standards as you say. Little Mick has reminded me I think my GG were from China Art as well, possibly Hotrox didn't do GG back then.
I had 3 300B push-pull amps and an SE before, all lovely but expensive to run for me as I worked from home and am now retired so they were on all day long, often just as background, so I've returned to SS for the time being at least. Hope you're enjoying yours

Hi Richard,
Yes I am really pleased with my 300B PP.
I was a 'DIY supplement' reader from day one but couldn't afford the kit price of the 300B and had to 'make do' building a K5881 Mk1. I was really proud of this and it remained my amp for over 20 years, having had all the resistor/capacitor upgrades on the way (though it remained a Mk1).
So buying Gerry's 300B was a bit of an ambition fulfilled, even if I didn't get to build it myself. It has been totally reliable, helped no doubt by the fact that I have resisted the temptation to tinker with it!
It now drives a pair of KLS3 Millenniums (eBay 400 + 100 for crossover rebuild).
