Default Just to say Hi and HELP lol

Hi all just poped in to say hi, then my psu broke ooops. This Christmas was just going to play the Winifred School Choir Christmas album on my trusty sp25 when the pre2 psu blew a fuse. After much head scratching eventually took said psu apart and it seems that the transformer is the culprit. No obvious burn marks or signs of probs but will blow fuses as soon as power is applied, when the trany is disconnected fuses ok, connect transformer to mains but not to pcb and fuse blows.
So three questions 1. Any one know what transformer the pre 2 psu used, 2. Any chance that something on the pcb caused the transformer to go faulty and finally how and what can I test?
Any advice accepted with thanks : mad:
Martin

Hello and welcome, Hmmm! SP 25, are we saying Garrard. The transformer is the same for PSU 2 & 3 so replacement is not a problem, contact our Admin. for price, it is possible that somthing is wrong on the PCB, check with a DMM for shorts to ground, you may have to remove some components. From what you say, it dose sound like the transformer is faulty, have you access to a meger, this will help find a problem with the transformer, but do not use it on the PCB, ( the regulater will not like it ) it could also be the on off switch, hope this helps you. BOB

Thanks Bob , have tested switch all seems ok, pcb seems ok (no obivous burn marks or shorts) so will try new tranformer as I do not have meger and can't see any shorts. The psu and pre 2 has been working perfectly for many years now, used every daywith either a pair of Quad 405's or jlh's 80wat amps.
Yes it was the garrard lol get it out every christmas. Martin

I bet that the Tec. sounds just a little better than the Garrard Philip, mind you I had three of the Garrard's in my very early years.

I was posh cos my first deck was a Garrard 86SB.

My Dad had a Garrard SP25 and I eventually nagged him into getting a Pioneer PL12D. My Mum still uses it.

Thumbs up Re: Just to say Hi and HELP lol

Thanks all for your help. It appears to be the trans and I am getting a new one.
By the way Bob in my rumaging around this site found your cf preII would like to emmulate it and have messaged you on that string. Looks like a neat little set up. I see the o/p trans are removed so a lot more space in the pre.
All the best Martin
