Scorpions DVD tonight - recorded/filmed in Portugal in 2001. Unplugged thing.
It's amazing how hard it is to keep a good tune down - if it works on acoustic guitar it'll work on anything ! Chris ![]() |

No problem
![]() Dunno if you're into the JM/JP combo much but theres a cracking DVD of her playing live with a killer line up of Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Don Alias, JP and Micheal Brecker from about 1979, it's the video companion to the live LP 'Shadows and light'. It's yummy and worth purchasing if you like listening and watching at the same time. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JONI-MITCHELL-...QQcmdZViewItem DTB

Hi all-does the music video/DVD experience (ie sight and sound) enhance the listening ?
I always thought the simulcast proms sounded better when i could see the orchestra playing. Philip

I don't have the DVD, but I have loved the LP for years.
I should get the DVD, but I find DVD's get played once or twice, whereas LP's get played over and over again, and I can "see" them playing anyway :-). There was a good Miles Davis film I saw on the TV the other day, http://www.amazon.com/Miles-Electric.../dp/B00069FKN2 Which finished with the entire 38min performance at the IOW festival. Worth it for the last 38min if nothing else.

Joni/Jaco = Yes Celine Dion/KennyG = No ![]() Nah but seriously Philip, as a bassist I like to see physically how Jaco got some of those sounds on the bass but thats the muso in me. I dunno if you've heard of him but he had a major influence on the role of the Electric Bass guitar, he wasn't the first to play fretless but he had a very distinctive 'voice' on it (he still sounded like Jaco on fretted too) but getting back to that DVD when he was teamed up to support Joni Mitchell he took lyrical bass playing soooooooooooooo far ahead we've still got at least another 43 years to catch up with him! There's not too much footage available of him (he was killed in 1987) so I like to see what he did especially as he was really 'cooking' at that period of time. He later lost it went down hill but thats best left to another thread on another forum IMHO n all that. Like NickG said you can 'see' them with your ears on that live recording anyway but I enjoy that DVD as much as I enjoy the CD, haven't got it on the black stuff. DTB

Jaco is perhaps a very intersting example .... one of the most enjoyable concerts I ever went to was at the Roundhouse oooo around 1976/7. Weather Report. I saw all & how Jaco did. I was with a beautiful young woman, we'd taken a pikanik hamper, we had great seats and it was totally splendid but blimey! if I wasn't playing bass in the same slappy (since '73 in 'Tom Bombadil's Blues Band) way but I only had a dreadful valve WEM Copycat to get the ostinato lines going ... and of course, I was not that good a bass player; loads of verve and imagination, but I didn't practice enough! And Stanley Clarke appeared in the scene a while later for me with that Chic Corea chappie. WOW!
Possibly Jaco had more style and soul. Our Stan ha(d)s more years. I've been watching a bit of this year's waterfest, again loads of excitement/enjoyment oh, sweet bird of youth. Are The Who to finish the concert? ...hope I die ... indeed! Roger how could you? In '75 at Charlton, now that was a gig (archaic term (Dave) ) ![]() ![]() ![]() Right now I am feeling my age. |
