Default Is this for real...or a scam?

'Found' among loads of spammy emails:

http://www.unfairbankcharge.co.uk/?aid=CD972&0=

I've never heard of such a service (so what?) and it sounds a bit too good to be true !

No, it's for real. The banks have been charging us £30 a time to tell us we're overdrawn, and have got themselves in such an indefensible position that they will never try to defend themselves in court. If you've been charged excessive charges in the last six years and threaten them with court action, they will cough up, though some will wait until the day before proceedings before settling, and will make the pretense that it's cheaper for them than going ahead. There are now 3 or 4 websites offering to assist or to do the donkey work for you, so go ahead, the banks need to be brought to heel on this. Be aware that they may possibly close down your current account, though, which can be a little awkward. Other banks will be more than happy to take your business.

There was a lengthy discussion about this on Radio 4 today, (12-12.30 ish) you may be able to listen again on the BBC website.

I will be suing my bank the halifax, soon, and will keep posted, they are horrors, and I can't dissuade enough people never ever to use them, it may be that they are all the same, even so, they are rotten to the core. makes a mockery of the adverts you see, and rather cynical. basically they are full of bull.

I went over my limit by a bank charge, and then they charged me again for going over the limit by their already dubious charge. They also delayed me by not giving a copy of the code of practice/complaints procedure until I asked 3 times, and havn'et replied to my letters. I will never return to the halifax, and will be going to the co-op.

Hi Ian,

Excuse me because I won't comment further but don't go where you say you are going. Find someone else.

Best wishes,

Greg

Hi-at least they seem to have an ethical policy.

Hi Philip,

Yes, you are right but that's not the whole story and actually if you explore their ethical third world influence (South American Rain Forest) it's not a good outcome. I see it as an advertising con designed to be subjected to us comfortables.

Best wishes,

Greg

Hi Philip,

Yes, once again. That being the case, I'd advise not signing up. If you've seen through the hype, there's no justification which was really my original point to Ian.

Best wishes,

Greg
