Think it was Tony that mentioned the curry house. Did a bit of a recce on my way home tonight - I clocked The Burghwallis pub at 1.3miles from the Travelodge. Heading through Old Skellow towards Carcroft, Skellow Grange WMC was 0.9m, and the New Moon pub was 1.3m. "The Curry House" takeaway is about a mile too.

TBH, Carcroft is not really somewhere I'd choose to have a night out in. Talking to a colleague today who lives in Woodlands (just to the south of the Travelodge) he described Carcroft as somewhere he wouldn't want a night out in as he wants to keep his front teeth.

There is a good curry house the far side of Woodlands, The Aagrah, and a few more pub options there too, but it's a bit more of a trek on foot - a good couple of miles along some unlit paths, and along the side of the A1.

There are many more options if using a taxi, but this defeats the object of the cheap accommodation.

If it were me, I'd be inclined to walk to The Burghwallis (though I've never been in) or drive/taxi. There is a Little Chef on site, but it's probably not what folks were thinking of...

Simon.

Hi All,

I think it was the Aagrah that I found on the web. I'm up for sharing a taxi, after all, the room rate is significantly lower than we normally pay so we're quids-in. Dental work is even more expensive so perhaps on balance a taxi might be the cheaper option?

Cheers,
Tony

I'd prefer a curry, am happy to share a taxi and as far as dental work goes, I paid £15.51 for a molar removal; really difficult job. But the dentist was a very attractive young woman whose competence, cheerful manner and whatever else attractive young women have, helped in taking my mind off the horrors involved.

For £15.51 I said I was quite happy for her to take more teeth out - a bargain! She smiled. I grimaced, dried blood flecks on my chin - perhaps I was not much of a pleasant proposition.

I said 'maybe' to Martin for a lift as Friday is very unpredictable so if any of you others coming up the A1 could help him out ... ( I have an interesting inkling and a poorly kept diary that I could be coming down the A1 as I have a meeting at Boston Spa soon, around that weekend and it would be a coincidence indeed but ...)
