Default JAN 6072A valves

Just found 3 of these in my parts box and would like to know what they fit?

Ive only ever bought extra valves for WD/WAD kit so they must be for something but what?

Mel

Hi Mel, to my memory, they are very close to the 12AY7, but no idea if they fit any of our products, others may help more.Bob

Hi Mel, Bob,

It's a 9 pin twin triode and the only WAD design I can recall that used it was the original Stereo chassis 300BPP where one valve was used, with a section for each channel, as input valve. That fed onto a single 5687 where, again, one section of that twin triode was used for each channel. Pic attached.

Other thoughts are that you bought them to try in Phono 2 or 3. A few of us tried other valves instead of the standard 3 ECC83. ECC83 has an amplification factor of 100, 5751 is 70, and 6072/12AY7 is 40. I tried them in Phono3S but couldn't get a good square wave using the adjustable trimmer (which I put down to their lower plate resistance affecting the frequency response) so didn't go further. 5751 trimmed up fine and sounded very good.

6072 are in demand for other equipment though and you'd have no trouble selling them on eBay.

Agree with Richard, I use one in my 300B push pull, did try it in the phono 3s but didnít like it.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I guess the phono application is most likely where I now use 5751.

Now I know they are definitely of no use to me I will move them on.
