You will be surprised at how many put the input connections the correct way in and the speaker posts the other way up . Bob

Here are some pics of the finished project. The inside shot shows all the connectors I put in which allows me to take the PCB out in just a couple of minutes, I also put some three-terminal tag strips on each of the speaker posts as it was really hard to get a good solder connection to so much metal. Also done is the swapping of the phono jacks and speaker post red/black position, and finished off with a replacement volume knob from WD.

I love the look of it ("the fireplace" my daughter calls it), and I love the sound of it, and spend most nights listening to an album in the evening.

Looks good, reminds me of mine that came out of the skip at WD, but, ALL the terminals are now upside down . Bob

Just the input phonos Bob. For some bizarre reason the convention on speaker tags is red to the top.

I'm not sure that there is any convention for speaker terminals but if I had to express a preference it would be for + uppermost. If you search the web for images you can certainly see professionally made amps that way around. As the inputs are generally red/white denoting right and left and speakers are generally red/black denoting +/- I don't see any reason they should have red on the bottom.
+ uppermost and - lower "feels" more correct to me ☺

Now I'm looking at it (and online), it does seem the convention is to have "Left" on top, and "Right" below for the inputs. So it was right the first time, and it was just the speaker posts the wrong way (as Bob would say ).

When I look at my commercial power amps, NOT ONE has the red speaker post at the bottom.
When one thinks on it, a red RCA socket simply indicates which stereo channel it is connected to whereas a Red binding post/speaker socket should indicate the Positive With respect to earth terminal.
I guess it doesn't matter anyway unless one is OCD about absolute phase and I personally don't think I could tell the difference as long as both channels are in phase.
Others may disagree.

A.
