Default Re: KEL84XL build/ Temperature

It sounds lovely but I have a question re external temperature.

I have the amp mounted on a shelf under the TT.

With a room temp of 20 Celsius the temp under the shelf was 37C.

I have just drilled some holes in the shelf and the temp, after 30 mins, is now 33C.

Do I need more 'cooling holes'?

BW

I have my KT88 on the bottom shelf of my rack, with about 50 mm clearance to the top of the power valves, I have not measured the temp., but with my wood burner alight, the room can quickly reach 30 deg. plus, I have had no problems in years, but I do keep the valves clean and dust free for max cooling, I don't think you need to worry Richard, just do as I do and run a duster over all valves once a week. Now, I wonder if someone will advise fan cooling. BOB

Hi All
Hello Fans
Richard when you said TT do you mean under your turntable this may not be good for your records and the TT otherwise as BOB has said all should be good

Hi, no...I know...I'm monitoring it closely. The records are clamped so I don't think there's too much of a problem there - but I agree the TT motor and the bearing (oil drying out etc) could be more of an issue.

I'm thinking of putting some temporary thin sloping shelves/deflectors between the top surface of the TT base and the bottom of the TT....to deflect the heat towards the back of the unit. Not much space though!

A digital temp probe comes into its own!

What is the dimension between the KEL top plate and the under side of the TT shelf? in MM please, Colin has a point regarding the Turntable and records, drilling the holes may not have been a good choice, because it will let that heat get to the Turntable, just because the temperature is 37 under the shelf, does not mean the KEL will be at that temperature, it will be much cooler and work well.
