Default 6N5P/6AS7/6080 any ideas?

I'm buying a Dark Voice 336SE OTL h/amp. The first valve is no problem - a 6SN7, I've got lots of those and the 6F8G. I would appreciate anyone who has experience with the second valve - namely a 6N5P/6AS7/6080.

Hi Stuart,
WAD sold the 6080SE kit amplifier in 1993 using this valve putting out 4W single ended per valve section.
It's a big twin triode described as "a rugged beast that will last for years". Langrex have new Mullard stock at 30 or maybe someone here has a spare for your amp

Hi Richard,

Is that the 'Valve Line Level preamplifier' in the June 1993 HiFi World supplement on the WD Gold Archive CD Issue 3 Chapter 4) ?

Thanks

Mark

The 6AS7/6080 is, as Richard says, a heavy duty double triode initially designed as a series regulator but like so many others (6C33CB) have found use as an output valve.
They are pretty well bomb proof under normal circumstances, and I have used them a lot for their prime purpose, regulating.
What else do you wish to know?
John

John,
I've done a lot of research on the web and the best are like a lot of other tubes today very expensive and some have got ramped up on price by idiots that will pay anything 'to have the best'.

Sometimes this is justified, other times not. I've got a GE 6AS7GA coming and a Svetlana from 71 - vamos a ver.

Front tube is easy, with adaptor a 6F8G Tung Sol RP, like it's younger brother the 6SN7 version, hardly ever seen for sale now. Will try a 1578 as well, if i find the sound is too far on the side of warm.

The DV gives out a lot of heat like all OTLs, not a problem as I shall use active cooling like I do with my 2 hybrid Bada amps, so simple and effective.
