Hi Martin-have you any information on the venue ?

Those dates are free for me at the moment.

Can we think about the "theme" or "themes" for this event ?

regards Philip

That sounds good to me Martin. I might have the OTL burned in (not out I hope!) by then

Hello Martin, hope you are well.

Sorry to say I almost definitely can't make that weekend.

Hi Martin

would like to come but probably away that week-end. The following is much better for me, although even that is not 100%

I should like to attend one of these "fests" but this one is a case of "You lucky people" as Tommy Trinder used to say - I shall be abroad.

A pity from my standpoint because I last was in Witham in, I think, 1961 as a guest of André Rahmer who had invited me to visit the Beam Echo/Avantic factory in the High Street. I suspect I should recognise very little now.

We lunched at The Bull in Halstead; not in itself a memorable event except that Rahmer, a very colourful character (it was generally thought that this but one of the names by which he operated), was excellent company and the shepherd's pie was good too . . This, mercifully, was before the days of twee, boutique lunches and you could still get proper pub grub.

Just as J Arthur swallowed up and destroyed Leak, so did Thorn acquire and promptly bury Beam Echo. All gone in the mists of time now and meaning little to the young 'uns but the "Golden Age" is a fertile source of memories* for an old fart like me.

Richard.

* The problem is that we insist on inflicting these recollections upon others . .

Hi - if you lunched in Halstead then you must mean Witham (Wit-ham) in Essex !

The fest is at South Witham (With-am) which is in Lincolnshire.

It is interesting to know that Witham in Essex was home to a valve amp manufacturer,a fact i had been unaware of.

It used to be the home of Ginetta cars, just down from the High St near the river bridge.

See this link for a little bit of Beam Echo/Avantic history
