Default K5881 amp

Hi I am looking at a K5881 on eBay. I believe its a mark 1. Are all the spares available and can they be upgraded?

Kind regards

David

Hi David,
It will depend on what you mean by "spares".
Transformers/chokes etc. no most unlikely, unless you had them specially wound by the original supplier at a cost.
All components tag boards etc yes readily available from a host of suppliers.
It is an excellent amp, giving first class results, upgrading to better components is not a problem and I am sure there are a lot of people here ready to give advice.

Hi John thanks for getting back to me. The listing states that the amp has a defect (possibly with the power supply) as it runs hot. Would that relate to chokes or transformers?

Kind regards

David

Hi David,
Before even hazarding a guess, I feel it necessary to point out that modern power transformers do run hot with surface temperature often of 50C. On one make I service the surface temp is about 65C and the makers say the core temp can rise to 140C without damage!!!!!!!!
Usually if the power Tx is running hot it is down to either excessive heater current or a fault on the HT line drawing excessive current, like faulty valves etc. but very difficult to diagnose as the unit is unknown.

Kind regards
