Not for me but I would like a to see a switched mode amplifier, I think this is the future for SS amps.
Rich, something wrong with the Poll, I checked 'off your rocker!' and it came up as 'they sound so much better than valves' !! |

When I first got my 6550, the local HiFi shop tried to convince me of the error of my ways, and lent me a Sugden A21. I was actually supprised just how similar it was to the 6550 (I think I expected it to be better, but it wasn't). The only real difference I could find at the time was the Sugden ran out of power (especially on bass) way before the 6550.

Yes, the Tact.
It sounded incredibly detailed, clean and bright but smooth at the same time. Cant say I fell for it but I heard enough to be convinced by it. My friend who has an old Eighties Exposure Pre/Power setup liked it as well, he was very tempted but held back as the company has changed AFAIK and they have some new models coming with inbuilt room correction. Should be interesting! The are very efficient and have great power reserves, maybe one day all amps will be made this way? ![]() |

Interesting, thanks Neal, I'm looking forwrad to hearing Leo's which uses Hypex 180 modules and is up and running ungoing a bit of tweaking he tells me.
I was surprised by SS when I heard Andy's (very well built) Gainclone. I agree things are on the move but we can't include future technology in a pole for WAD I suppose so will have to go with existing stuff. Rich |

A push pull pentode valve amp is far superior to an a1 Sugden. Pile of sh1te.

I for one would love to see somebody(knowledgable) in the uk post some info on Nelson Pass designs(aleph). It is written that they are 'to die for' but its tricky sourcing or getting parts info here in the uk(particularly monster heat sinks).

I built the V6 Son of Zen. Impressive stuff, though it has rather different priorities to most other amps and sucks power like nothing else I know. Matched my horns well before I sold them on.
