Default KEL84 & Jupiters: Tolerance: 26% over spec o.k.?

Hi,

I bought "0.22uF" Jupiters for use in the KEL84. The Kel84 asks for 0.22uF.

The Jupiter's are: .277uF & 0.284uF (2 matched pairs).

That's 26% higher than spec. Is it o.k. to use those? Or will that have a negative effect on the sound (too much bass, etc.).

Cheers
Pete

Not so large as to cause instability (large coupling caps in a multistage feedback amp are a cause of motorboating). No they don't create base, they lower the -3db high pass frequency so simply allow linear base to a lower frequency than before.

In short, no problems aniticpated.
BUT caveat empwatsitsname etc etc YMMV blah blah.

Yes, I bought them from partsconnexion. They answered my email and told me these large tolerances are usual with Jupiters.

I dont think those values are odd + or - 25% tolerance is not uncommon on caps, some are as high as + or - 50 %. I wouldn't worry about it, If you were building an RIAA stage you would need closely toleranced matched pairs for the best performance, the -3dB filter point with these will probably be less than 20Hz anyway and so is of little consequence.
